In an interview, I would first define application monitoring and the problem it solves, then explain how I would define service-level indicators, collect useful metrics and traces, correlate with deployments, alert on user impact rather than every anomaly, and keep dashboards tied to decisions. I would also call out the main failure mode: collecting large volumes of telemetry without clear questions or ownership creates cost and noise without improving incident response. Finally, I would describe how I would test, monitor, and safely roll back or recover the solution.
